<lj:music>Oranger - Green Gold Rolling Skull</lj:music>

So, I'm really glad this film got an 82% rating at Rotten Tomatoes.
I'm glad that I'm making this entry simply because of a movie.
I'm glad that I used 99 minutes of my time to watch this AMAZING! movie.
In fact, I am so happy with this movie, that I was inspired to create art that relates to it.

I am so glad that apparantly the PROFESSIONAL critics who "reviewed" this movie were actually getting paid to go to the theme park of their choice, drink at some bar, pay their bills, attend a Steely Dan concert or something even more exciting. I mean there's no way that someone who actually watched this movie could say:

"Taut direction and convincing performances impart a terrifying sense of claustrophobia and isolation." -- M. K. Terrell
CHRISTIAN SCIENCE MONITOR

"[Marshall] expertly maps out those raw nerve endings while creating credible characters who speak and act like real people rather than the usual horror archetypes." -- Michael Rechtshaffen HOLLYWOOD REPORTER

"An object lesson in making a tightly-budgeted, no-star horror pic work through razor-sharp technique and committed performances alone." -- Derek Elley VARIETY

"Soap opera performances, a script of supreme inanity and a totality of celluloid that's about as innovative and fresh as the shit that no longer exists on the bottom of my rotting baby diapers from 25 years ago." -- Josh

Only one of the above 4 reviews is even remotely accurate.

And just so I don't come off too one-sided (too late, I know), I can give credit to some of the score, eye-gouging and 3 scenes that made my stomach turn slightly.

And that's the sum of it all.

It has been forever since I wrote anything in here.

I have a short list of movies coming out this summer. These include, but are not limited to:

Down In The Valley
The Fountain
A Scanner Darkly
Southland Tales
Lady In The Water
Marie Antoinette
3001

My Mants are floating around in space like sputnik. There was an article that the ever so sweet Julie Garisto wrote about us in the Tampa Bay Times. Funny stuff.

In the past month, I have gone to the Coachella festival in California and I have also decided to leave my current job. I am exploring some options, but I think I have settled on a job involving accounting. I'm not sure if I can outrun my lineage.

I will hopefully post more about Coachella soon. Like some pictures and extra garbage.

I could talk about girls, but I won't.

My 26th fuck is coming up in 3 days.

Okay. So the computer just erased what I spent 20 minutes writing. FUCK YOU, YOU FUCKING STUPID FUCK OF A COMPUTER!
In short, things are good. I'm out in LA for the holidays.
I got to see Nathan today (which included breakfast, hiking in Griffith Park, coffee and cheesecake (Gay, yes.. but we are FABULOUS!!!), Amoeba Records for 3 hours, a strange bookstore/novelty store and, lastly, an awesome little dive bar that has one of the best burgers in the world.)

Other than that, I love seeing my wonderful dad and I love him.

I love King Kong. It fucking rules.

I was called a 'fucking faggot' by a guy who wanted to get into a parking space that I was watching for some friends on Friday night. Apparently, he really wanted the space, because he proceeded to get out of his car and make threatening gestures at me. The chicken shit didn't do anything and then Adriel came out and made the idiot piss his pants. Funny fucking shit.

Mants started recording in Englewood. (CHECK IT - http://www.myspace.com/thegirlsnamedlourdis ) Their drummer is the guy doin' our shit and he's fantastic. His name is Justin. and we love him. We are sounding very good.

No new years plans just yet, but who knows.. maybe I'll find the cure for AIDS and world hunger and be whisked off to the end of the world.

OH and this is who I saw and talked with in Amoeba for a couple minutes... see, you always see celebrities in LA..

I didn't talk to him about anything movie related, or even let on that I knew who he was, but I'm glad Nate pointed him out because the exchange of words was pretty funny. I did not, however, tell him that Terminator 3 was a mistake. Maybe I should have, though.

I'm outtaaaa heeeerrreeee.....

Who knows what to say?

In the word of David Bowie "Ch..ch..ch..ch..changes!!!"

Yosi is leaving to San Francisco at the end of the month. Nick is over in Germany for a month. Lisa has been gone for about a month and a half now... Mants hasn't had practice in about a month. Me and Alan decided to start a classic rock cover band.. we don't have a name yet, but we'll be doing stuff like The Kinks, Yes, Rush, Steely Dan, Pink Floyd, Beatles, Beach Boys, Boston, Rolling Stones, CSNY, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, maybe Bowie, not completely sure yet, but it's going to be a lot of fun... the things we disagree on playing are kind of funny, though.. I don't know if he wants to play any Pink Floyd, but I'm going to force at least one song on the group.. no one else wants to do 'Don't Fear The Reaper'.. that's a fucking classic! and the breakdown in the middle has to be one of the best ever and then it kicks back in and it's fucking crazy! fucking hell.

I've seen so many movies in the past month.. Murderball, March of the Penguins, War of the Worlds, Wedding Crashers, Hustle & Flow, Charlie & The Chocolate Factory, The Machinist, Explorers, Seed Of Chucky, Aparajito, Around The Bend, A Dirty Shame, The Assassination of Richard Nixon, Jump Tomorrow, Batman Begins, The Devil's Rejects, Scent of a Woman, The Island, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Must Love Dogs and I'm sure I'm leaving a couple out... wow wow.. look at all the money I'm giving to the Hollywood machine. Dog shit hell!

Just to catch up on old news.

April 2005: I went and saw M83 in DC with Leah, Tom, Yosi and Rachel. And I think I permanently injured my finger on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial at 2 in the morning. Needless to say, I loved DC, my friends and the drive up there.

May 2005: I turned 25. Fucking shit ass stank.

June 2005: Mants opens for Travis Morrison. People get stabbed. Fucked up show.

July 2005: Everyone leaves. I find myself in a fiery encased tube of chocolate ice cream and fat. And I don't know if it's just me, but when I rub that area where the soul patch goes really hard and then smell my finger, it smells weird. But it could just be my stank self.

I think I have to stop watching movies, computers and tvs and get outta dodge.

feelings are weird, aren't they?

Sorry, fanboys and fangirls; the D-Plan did indeed rock, but Morrison's solo album Travistan, his disjointed live shows and sad attempts at hip-hop funnery are, given his pedigree, perplexing in their awfulness. Local band Mants is interesting, though. (Masquerade Infinity Room, Ybor City)

HERE IS WHAT THE WEEKLY PLANET HAD TO SAY ABOUT ME AND MY 4 BLACK DAUGHTERS:

Mants
Mants
This Clearwater outfit (which features a couple of the guys from the late, less adventurous Skyline) plays an idiosyncratic style of indie-rock. You can hear lots of influences, but Mants doesn't sound like anybody, thank you very much, and manages to come off as both meandering/angular/experimental and muscular/anthemic/melodic, occasionally within the same tune: "A Tin Deal" and "Svengali" best bridge both worlds. Those who like standard 4/4 riffs are gonna be confused, and the vocals are studiedly amateurish. Overall, however, this is interesting and above-average bombastic post-punk that follows its own muse.
I found this article at baynews9.com... I don't know if other counties are contemplating this, but if you want to fuck up our youth even more, this is the way to do it. There are already so many ridiculous fucking "mental illnesses" being diagnosed to kids out there. There are also way too many overmedicated children who are being stuffed with drugs, of which the long term effects are unknown (and while their bodies are still developing, no less). Education has already been reduced to shit and now it's just being smeared on the faces of parents and their children. If you feel like I do, send an email to Board@pcsb.org letting them know how you feel. This is the school board's email. Let them know that this is fucked. But (and I hate to say it) write the email in a somewhat civil manner, please. Thanks.

Suicide screenings a possibility in Pinellas schools
Thursday, November 11, 2004

Shern wants to help students who may be suicidal.
When seven Pinellas County students committed suicide in a span of eight months two years ago, the school district produced a video to educate teachers about the warning signs.

USF professor David Shern says he wants to help students who may be suicidal and is asking the Pinellas County School Board for permission to screen high school students for mental health problems.

"Suicidal behavior is the third most frequent killer of children and adolescents," said Shern.

Across the U.S. last year, more than 6,500 teenagers committed suicide. A recent survey showed that 22 percent of sixth- and eighth-graders in Pinellas County seriously considered killing themselves.

Linda Jones with Pinellas County's Safe and Drug Free Schools Department says a pilot program is being developed for ninth-graders at Northeast High School in St. Petersburg and could be expanded countywide.

"If the youngster showed positive signs through the screening, then they would also be seen by a clinician and there would be contact with the parents at that point and attempts would be made to get that youngster immediate help," said Jones.

Before these screenings can be given, both the parent and student must give permission.
School board members will consider the program.

Some school board members have some serious questions about diving into such a delicate subject.

"You are planting seeds and ideas into kids' heads that were not there to begin with," said board member Nancy Bostock.

Bostock says mental health should be left to doctors, not educators.

"It's a concern of the public that the school is perceived as stepping into a medical area where they don't belong and it's very, very controversial," said Bostock.

However, other board members think being proactive could save a life.

"Suicide is preventable," said the board's Linda Lerner. "It's caused by depression and it's a treatable disease and by doing this in one program, it's going to go well beyond that."

If school board members sign off on the policy, the mental health screenings could begin as soon as next year.

So the Halloween party went great. Great attendance, great costumes, great dancing, great snacks, great decoration. man, it was fucking good. I am satisfied with that. about 90% of the people wore costumes and that's great. I was Ron Jeremy and I liked it. The best (in my opinion) were the 3 Dominoes, Harry & Lloyd (from Dumb & Dumber) and Mr. Potato Head. What a good halloween party.. shit man. OH and Alan punched a fucking hole through his door.

Onto other things... I think I may be one of the only people who doesn't love I <3 Huckabees. Also, I thought Saw was more funny than anything.

I am going to try and make this my last post on the subject of politics. But I promise nothing.

Sooooo, I know there are a lot of people out there with a lot to say, but here's my take on it.

Firstly, the dramatics and histrionics have to stop. Attention. The world is not over because George Bush is taking office again. We should not just "rip up the constitution" because he was re-elected. There is a certain filmmaker (who will go unnamed) who made a film a few years ago that made so many false points (in my view), but managed to slip in one point that I agreed on. The point being that the media love to cause fear. And, funny enough, this now seems to be what he (the filmmaker) wants to cause. BE AFRAID because BUSH IS IN OFFICE!!!! OOOOOH!!! SCARY GHOSTY WOSTY!!!!

Now don't get me wrong. I don't want Bush in office. I don't want Kerry in office. But do I believe that regardless of who was elected, the USA would still be here. It's not going to be hell and you should still fight for what you believe, but for fuck's sake, be rational. Things may get tough, but as long as you push for things you honestly believe to be for the better of the world, then it will work out.

In addition to that, I think it's fucking hilarious that people are calling their own country 'ignorant' because the person that they wanted to become president didn't get in. That has to be the greatest highlight of contradiction in people that claim to be "open-minded". The fact that they can't accept that intelligent people would learn the issues, examine their own opinions and views on things and then vote against the "open-minded" person's candidate just goes to show how little they are really open to. Isn't it possible for an intelligent, informed person to hold a view that's not completely in line with yours? I am not saying that ignorant people did not vote for Bush. Here is what I am saying... the kind of people who voted for whoever the AM Radio talk show host said to vote for are the same types of people who voted for whoever their favorite band told them to vote for. If someone looked at candidates, views, amendments, etc. and decided (based on their own views and ideas) what to vote for (regardless of party affiliation), then it cannot be called ignorance. It is simply someone's viewpoint.

A few more things.
I voted based on who I thought would make the best president. I also want to state that I have heard about the 'throwing your vote away if you vote for a 3rd party' concept so much and it's entirely too ridiculous. I'm sorry that I didn't vote for someone who I would never want as president. too bad... so sad.

2 amendments that I'm sorry to see got passed. The monorail and minimum wage. fuck man. that's pure shite.

Lastly, I don't understand the concept of working to make the next 4 years extremely hard on the government. I'm sorry, but it sounds like something a whiny brat would do. Instead, use the next 4 years to work to help the government get to what would be more of an ideal situation in your eyes. Try to make the best of it. Improve yourself. Maybe try getting yourself to a position of power where you could help make the world a better place.

anyways, that's all. thanks...

So the trip to California was successful. Fun, exciting and fun.

quick Coachella rundown:

Hot. Mediocre 1st day breakfast. Excellent 2nd day breakfast. Refrained from buying almost anything other than food and water. Drank tons of water. Many bathroom trips. Saw one of the guys in Kraftwerk at the end of the first night. Beautiful scenery. Free dvds. Sold out both days (aka way too many people).

On to the bands: (I'm going to put an asterisk next to the bands whose full sets I saw)

Juana Molina .very good acoustic latin-tinged stuff.
The Section Quartet .a string quartet playing versions of
Jeff Buckley/Radiohead/etc.very neutral.
The Stills* .really good set.very solid and enjoyable.
Q And Not U .sounded good, but too preachy.the first time I've ever heard
the word'crypto-fascist' used.hahaha
Junior Senior* .SOOOO much fun and Fred Schnedier from the B-52s came out and sang
along with 'Move Your Feet'and Har Mar Superstar did a striptease with them.
LCD Soundsystem .fun & dancey, but their set carried over into the Pixies'.
The Pixies* .good, but soooo fucking overcrowded.watched from a distance as they
played their hits.
Stereolab* .missed a couple of songs, but saw most of the set.it sounded great and
so much better than the last time I saw them.
Radiohead .saw a few songs.even more crowded than The Pixies.good though.
Mindless Self Indulgence* .fun stage show, but after 15 minutes all the songs were
blending together.
Kraftwerk* .incredible stage show.tons of fun and excitement, regardless of my
throbbing headache.
!!!* .absolutely fantastic.the first song gave me goosebumps.one of the highlights.
Broken Social Scene* .tons of fun, a great show and the guitar player proposed to
his girlfriend near the end of the set.she said yes and everyone was happy.
Thursday* .sucktastic.we only watched them to get a good spot at the main stage.
Oh, and it was the only place at which I saw a concertgoer sporting
an 'Evanescence' t-shirt.I can only wish they had chosen to play on Thursday.
Belle & Sebastian* .very good and entertaining.even got a few people up on stage to
play percussion.
Air* .wonderful set that was way too short.I swear they did not get a full set.
The Flaming Lips* .one word: SCRUMTRULESCENT.the sight of Wayne Coyne climbing into
a giant bubble and proceeding to travel across the top of my head and everyone
else's was worth the price of admission alone.not only was that incredible, but
they then played a fantastic set and my life was fulfilled.
The Cure .heard them play quite a few hits and they sounded great, but I knew that
the traffic beast was coming, so we split.

So there you have it. Coachella in a nut. Yes, we missed the small tent performance of Beck, but in doing so, we also avoided being suffocated by the 18,000 people who wanted to squeeze into the tent to see him.

In addition to Coachella, Lisa and I (meeting up periodically with Yosi and Joleigh)went to LA and had pounds upon pounds of fun. In no particular order:

Seeing Kill Bill 2 at the Arclight!
Shopping at Amoeba Music and Giant Robot!
Seeing Yosi and Joleigh's hotel room (my jealousy still remains)!
Going to the Getty once again!
Hanging out with Nathan!
Eating sushi, pizza and various types of great food!
Making our one celebrity sighting during the trip!
(can anyone guess who it was?????? a prize to the first person who
guesses correctly, and doesn't already know!)
Spending time with my sister and dad!
Getting crazy asian food and drinks!
Hollywood Boulevard and homeless icons!

Okay. I'm back in FL. I've joined Netflix and I have over 40 movies in my queue. I love it and I am now addicted. I got my tax refund. very good stuff. Other than that, I am fat and proud.

Things are going good at the job, with the girl and in most parts of my life. I hope everyone else is doing well and my birthday is in 3 weeks.

much love.

So after 2 months of being jobless, I got a job. I work at a place called Naturescapes. They sell relaxation music (read: new age). I ship out our product to retailers across the nation!

I have a girlfriend. Her name is Lisa. She is the darn tootenest.

I have watched a lot of dvds because I got a card in the mail from Blockbuster which allows me to rent any videos for only $1.89 (including new releases, 2 day rentals, etc.). It is amazing. I have been becoming the biggest couch potato ever. I have been watching Family Guy, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Office and tons of good and terrible movies.

Mants played a show opening for Delegate (formerly known as Zetamale). That was fun and disappointing at the same time.

Supavyllenz opened for Crossbreed. (cue laughter)

I have not been getting any sleep! fuck!

I have to call about 30,000,000,000,000,000,000 of my friends back. I know I'm a shitty friend. I'm sorry.

I want to go to Coachella.

goodnight lovers. oh, and I'm only posting this because JG told me to.
